scanners
There are Digital Senders located in S-114, S-118 and Fuld Second Floor Libary Stacks where you can scan documents to PDF, JPEG or TIFF and send them via e-mail.
Using Xsane on the linux machine
- At a terminal prompt, type:
xsane
You will see the following windows appear:
- Click on the button "Acquire preview" in order to see your images.
- Use the dotted lines to select the area of the picture that you want to scan. When you are satisfied with the area you want to scan, click on the button "Start". This will bring up a window showing you the scanned area.
Note: The image will appear very large. - If you are satisfied with the image, select File-> Save image Type in the name that you want to save it as. It will save it as a .pnm file.
Editing your image
There are several different applications you can use to edit your image.
- Gimp
- At the terminal prompt, type:
gimp - Click on File->Open > Locate the file that you want to edit
- If the image is one that you scanned from xsane then it will be large. You may want to scale it down.
- Right click on the picture and a menu will come up.
- Scroll down to Image and select scale image
- To save the picture as a different format (i.e jpeg or gif)
- Right click on the picture and select File->Save As
- Under Save Options: Determine File type, select from the menu the format you would like
- Type the name of the file.
- Click on "OK".
- Right click on the picture and select File->Save As
- At the terminal prompt, type:
