Mathematical Conversations

From Matrix Multiplication to Digital Sculpting

As a prelude to an enjoyable mathematical conversation, I will present both a visual depiction and a combinatorial interpretation of matrix and hypermatrix multiplication. Finally I will discuss how hypermatrix multiplication relates to Sculpting and enable us to easily convey to an artist with very little mathematical training notions such as commutativity and associativity. WARNING: Because of the tentative connection with Sculpture, the talk is best understood after one or more wine glasses.

About Mathematical Conversations: We meet in Harry's Bar at 6pm, where free drinks are provided. After 20 minutes, we move to the Dilworth room, where the speaker gives a 20-minute talk, followed by 15 minutes of discussion with the audience. After that we return to the bar for further discussions.
