How to Map a Network Drive in Windows 10

Note: Attempting to map a drive off-campus requires you to first establish a VPN connection.  Click Here, for VPN instructions.

1.  Press Win + E to open the File Explorer window.
2.  Choose This PC from the left side of the window.
3.  Click Computer and then click Map network drive.
4.  Choose an unused Drive Letter (Z, Y, X, etc) from the dropdown menu.
5.  In the Folder text box:

  • If you are a faculty member in the School of Math, enter: \\fs.ds.ias.edu\math_home\faculty\username
  • If you are a member or visitor in the School of Math, enter: \\fs.ds.ias.edu\math_home\member\username
  • If you are staff member in the School of Math, enter: \\fs.ds.ias.edu\math_home\staff\username

6.  If you are prompted for your username and password, enter it in the following format: IAS\username. Your IAS username is the part of your e-mail address before the @ sign. For example, if your e-mail address is jdoe@ias.edu, your username is jdoe.  [NOTE: Not all users in the School of Math have a Windows user account.  Please contact the School of Math Help Desk if you wish to access your IAS home directory from your personal Windows laptop.]
7.  The newly mapped drive will pop up in a new window.  This drive will now be accessible and visible under "This PC".
