Statement: How did seventeenth-century discourses of trade, credit and money transform into the foundations for an anatomy of 'the social' as a new object of systematic knowledge? The political economy of 'commercial society' developed specifically out of analyses of commercial practices that traversed boundaries of sovereignty and jurisdiction.
