Alla VronskayaIllinois Institute of Technology Modern Architecture Statement: During my residence at the IAS, I will complete my book manuscript, Monistic Modernism: An Intellectual History of Soviet Architecture, 1917-1941. Situating Soviet interwar architectural theory in its transdisciplinary and transnational context, the manuscript unpacks it as a discourse about society and the human. It identifies this discourse as monism, an intellectual framework centering on 'life,' a synthetic notion developed at the intersection of architecture, psychology, and social engineering.
