High Energy Theory Seminar

I will demonstrate presence of a vanishing momentum unstable quasi-normal mode in a certain class of asymptotically AdS black brane solutions and present the fully backreacted time evolution of the system resulting from this instability. I will discuss this instability in the context of the Gubser-Mitra conjecture that relates dynamical instabilities to thermal instabilities of the corresponding thermodynamic system. I will also discuss this in connection with violation of the recently conjectured conformal bound on the speed of sound in strongly interacting plasmas.
