Jumpstarting the all-loop S-matrix of N=4 super Yang-Mills

I will discuss recent progress in understanding loop-level scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM. Compared with previous efforts aimed at exploiting integrability of this gauge theory, our approach differs mainly in its focus on canonical infrared-safe quantities, and its use of so-called momentum twistor variables. I will discuss how the first aspect allows us to derive exact differential equations, expected to be valid at all values of the coupling, and how the second aspect helps render them technically amenable to solution. At present solution is being carried out in a weak coupling expansion.
