Tradition of Giving

Louis Bamberger CBFportrait.jpg

In 1930, Louis Bamberger and his sister Caroline Bamberger Fuld generously funded an endowment that supported a fledgling academic enterprise consisting of two faculty members working in borrowed quarters.  In so doing, they established a tradition of giving that built this young academic enterprise into a thriving international community of scholars that today brings over 190 Members annually onto an 800-acre campus to conduct theoretical research in conjunction with a distinguished, world renowned Faculty.

Through the years, former Members, Trustees, Friends and other supporters have continued this tradition of giving and have manifested their belief in the continuing importance of the work of the Institute. However, the Institute must continue to strengthen its endowment so that future generations of scholars will be able to study here. The Institute wants to ensure that the qualities for which it is known -- the rigorous scholarship, the mentoring of young post-doctoral students by senior Faculty, and the encouragement of the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake -- will continue. This goal is ambitious, but it is attainable through the generosity of loyal Friends, Faculty, Trustees and former Members who cherish a belief in the value of this outstanding academic institution.

There are many ways of including the Institute in your philanthropic plans. These pages offer an introduction to ways of contributing that provide meaningful support to the Institute, as well as secure financial benefits and tax advantages for you and your loved ones.

Please take advantage of our Planned Giving Calculator.  The calculator is designed to illustrate the income and tax benefits to which you may be entitled if you make a planned gift to the Institute.

Whether you wish to make an outright gift, to pledge to a particular program or School, or to participate in one of the gift plans described in these pages, your gift will help shape the course of the Institute for Advanced Study and will ensure the next century of scholarship.

The information presented on these web pages is not offered as legal or tax advice.  Please seek the advice of your tax advisor, attorney, and/or financial planner to insure that the gift you are considering fits with your overall estate plans.
