| "It seemed to me the time was ripe for the creation
in America of an institute in the field of general scholarship and
science...where everyone -- faculty and members -- took for granted what was
known and published, and in their individual ways endeavored to advance the
frontiers of knowledge."
Abraham Flexner |
Bequests play an important role in supporting the Institute. Many former Members, Faculty, Trustees and Friends have made provisions for the Institute in their wills and trusts - leaving legacies that have greatly enhanced the Institute's vitality - with increases and improvements in faculty, facilities and activities. For some donors a bequest - a gift made through their will - is the simplest way of making a substantial contribution to the Institute.
For many years, Abraham Flexner, the Institute's founding director, had dreamed of establishing an American institution devoted to learning and research. He envisioned a true society of scholars, and he convincingly conveyed to Louis Bamberger and Caroline Fuld his vision of a research institute called the Institute for Advanced Study. Louis Bamberger and Caroline Fuld generously supported this great experiment, born of idealism, thoughtful philanthropy and a belief in the importance of scholarship.
We would be delighted to help you leave a legacy to this extraordinary community of scholars. The following pages include sample bequest language, as well as information on making the most highly tax-efficient bequest to charity by using your retirement assets.
If you have already made the Institute a beneficiary of your will or trust, please let us know so that we can welcome you to the Einstein Legacy Society, a society created to honor those donors who have included the Institute in their estate plans.
